“Emerging Technology and Regulations in the Global Maritime Industry of the Future, and the Impacts on the Nigerian Maritime Sector”

NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML) was the headline sponsor of a maritime workshop on “Emerging Technology and Regulations in the Global Maritime Industry of the Future, and the Impacts on the Nigerian Maritime Sector” at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos on 22nd August 2023.
The MD/CEO of NSML, Abdulkadir K. Ahmed, in his opening remarks highlighted the importance of the twin issues of emerging regulations and technological advancements, and the reasons why stakeholders in the global maritime industry are devoting serious attention and resources to them currently. He stressed that the issues are anchored on the treble objectives of ensuring a SAFE, RELIABLE and SUSTAINABLE industry, and that it is vitally important for stakeholders to start analysing these issues within the context of applicability to the Nigerian maritime industry, as they are bound to change the operations and dynamics of the sector. He further highlighted some of the initiatives NSML and the NLNG-Group are implementing to ensure compliance and future-proofing the business.
Professor Pat Utomi, the convener of the event, gave the keynote address and he chronicled the rapid evolution of the global maritime industry, vis a vis the impact on the Nigerian maritime sector. He stressed the fact that Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Automation are at the base of the new industrial revolution in the maritime industry.
The main highlight of the workshop was the plenary session, consisting of industry subject matter experts and stakeholders, which provided a platform to exhaustively discuss and proffer solutions to the issues.
Maritime and shipping stakeholders from the public and private sectors attended the workshop.
