Theme: “MARPOL @50 pollution from Ships, Africa’s Commitment to Clean Oceans Seas, Inland Waters and the Marine Environment”

The MD/CEO NLNG Shipping & Marine Services Limited (NSML), Mr. Abdulkadir K. Ahmed was a speaker at the Lagos International Maritime Week on Tuesday, 19th September 2023, at the Oriental Hotels in Lagos.

He spoke on the topic – “Clean Oceans, Seas, and Waterway – Practical Solutions”- and highlighted NSML’s commitment to clean oceans, seas and waterways which is beyond simply complying with the regulations, but in taking practical steps, both operationally and structurally, to ensure compliance with the MARPOL Conventions of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), and the sustainable, safe, and efficient operations of the vessels in the NSML fleet.

He further touched on the impact of the NSML Clean Waterways Initiative, NSML’s corporate social responsibility program, via regular clean up exercise of the Bonny waterfront of the NLNG Terminal, and the advocacy drive to ensure the commitment of all stakeholders around the Port- Harcourt and Bonny axis to clean waterways practices. He concluded by stating that oceans and waterways are indispensable for the overall wellbeing of the planet and all life forms they support, emphasizing the importance of a cleaner waterways.

The event was attended by stakeholders in the international and domestic maritime industry.
