NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML) and Lloyds Register (LR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the collaboration to expand access to maritime training and advisory services across West Africa, on Thursday, 11th September 2025. The event held on the sidelines of the 2025 Gastech Exhibition and Conference in Milan, Italy, and the MoU speaks directly to the purpose of NSML of providing world-class integrated shipping and maritime services whilst fostering international maritime skills and standards in Nigeria, as well as its vision of being a recognised international leader in integrated shipping and maritime services, providing innovative and sustainable maritime solutions.
The MoU will bring together NSML’s strong local presence and training infrastructure, including its Maritime Centre of Excellence (MCoE) in Bonny, with LR’s global technical leadership and advisory capabilities, for the development and advancement of the maritime industry in Sub Sahara Africa.
Speaking at the event, the MD/CEO of NSML Abdulkadir K. Ahmed stressed the need for collaboration and strategic alliance with international organisations like LR, to enable NSML play a pivotal role in the advancement of maritime training and business advisory services domestically in Nigeria, regionally in West Africa and generally in Sub Sahara Africa.
The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Lloyds Register, Andy McKeran, highlighted the positive and valuable collaboration between both companies in the last decade, and the need to expand and deepen the relationship further in the coming years.
The event was witnessed by leaders in the NLNG-Group, led by the MD/CEO, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, the Deputy MD of NLNG, Mr. Olakunle Osobu, the General Counsel and Company Secretary, Mr. Akachukwu Nwokedi and the General Manager External Relations & Sustainable Development, Dr. Sophia Horsfall.
