The MD/CEO of NSML, Abdulkadir K. Ahmed, was a guest speaker at the 2023 West Africa Shipping Assembly (WASA), at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) headquarters in London on Tuesday, 21 st September 2023.
Ahmed, spoke on “Harnessing Opportunities in the West African Maritime Sector- The Role of Standards, Competencies and Capacity Development”. He highlighted the strategic importance of the maritime industry to the development of the energy sector in West-Africa, and the vast opportunities for stakeholders in both the energy and maritime sectors.
He further highlighted the major roles of standards, competencies and capacity development in the maritime industry, and the need to ensure compliance with global standards by West African countries to position themselves as major players in the global maritime industry.
Ahmed chronicled some key NSML’s activities (SMKTA, MCOE, Ecoport PERS certification, Training & Capacity development) which are geared towards ensuring competitiveness, operational excellence, and global standards in line with the leading practices applicable in the maritime industry.
The event, which held on the side-lines of the London International Shipping Week, was well attended by stakeholders in the global maritime industry.
